The Indianapolis Colts have had a busy offseason thus far in 2026, headlined by the signing of wide receiver Alec Pierce in free agency. Pierce was rumored to have had numerous other interested suitors from around the league, but ultimately, the rising star chose to return to Indianapolis on a 4 year, $114 million deal.
Now, the team has gotten a troubling update on the wide receiver’s health as the offseason continues, albeit with an important clarification.
“#Colts WR Alec Pierce, who signed a 4-year, $114M contract this offseason, underwent an ankle procedure that will sideline him for roughly three months, but he should be ready for training camp,” reported Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team on X, formerly Twitter.
Over the last few years, Pierce has established himself as an elite downfield threat for the Colts, consistently beating opposing defenses backs down the field on deep routes and also making some impressive catches in jump ball scenarios.
Colts fans will hope that nothing about this ankle procedure will linger over into next season, when his new deal is set to kick in.
Pierce enjoyed an elite season last year in the games that Daniel Jones was the starting quarterback for the Colts before he went down with an Achilles injury, and the team is hoping for some positive news on that front as the 2026 season approaches.
In the meantime, the Colts will turn their attention to the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft, which is slated to get underway with the first round on Thursday evening in Pittsburgh.
