NFL rumors: The other Patriots WR trade that could happen besides A.J. Brown

The New England Patriots acquiring AJ Brown in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles after June 1 has been the NFL’s worst kept secret this offseason. However, it may not be the only trade involving the Patriots and a wide receiver that goes down.

Teams around the league have begun showing interest in Kayshon Boutte, via NFL insider Jordan Schultz. As New England continues building their wide receiver room, Boutta could be the odd man out.

“A name that has come up in trade talks is #Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte, who is entering the final year of his contract, according to multiple league sources,” Schultz wrote.

“With Romeo Doubs coming in and the eventual AJ Brown trade, teams believe he could be available for the right price,” he concluded.

The Patriots signed Romeo Doubs to a $68 million contract to help lead their passing attack. If/when New England does trade for Brown, those two will be the team’s top two receivers. Boutte has proven to be a playmaker and could still do damage catching passes from Drake Maye. But the Patriots may prefer to acquire future draft capital for his services.

Over his three years in New England, Boutte has caught 78 passes for 1,159 yards and nine touchdowns. He set a new career-high with six touchdown receptions in 2025, making 33 grabs for 551 yards overall. Boutte has at least 550 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

When Brown arrives, assuming the Patriots actually trade for him, New England’s offense will look much, much different. In that scenario, and if the right offers arrives, Boutte may no longer be involved in those plans.
