With 12 selections at their disposal, the Pittsburgh Steelers are entering the 2026 NFL Draft with more ammunition than any other team in the league. Which will be necessary after the franchise’s latest injury concern.
Left tackle Broderick Jones has suffered a setback in his recovery from neck surgery, via Adam Schefter of ESPN. Now, the Steelers are in need of new option at the position.
“For starters, left tackle Broderick Jones had a setback to the neck injury he sustained last season, and is scheduled to be examined this week to determine whether he will be ready for training camp and/or the start of the season, per league sources,” Schefter said. “That could influence whether Pittsburgh needs to find a new left tackle during the first two days of the draft.”
The Steelers will have more intent on Jones once he undergoes further tests. However, his status for training camp and the regular season is now in question. With his injury being to the neck, Pittsburgh is sure to be cautious with their left tackle. At the same time, the franchise now knows their long-term plans at the position have been fractured.
Whether or not the Steelers go left tackle at No. 21 is yet to be seen. But if they don’t, Pittsburgh will pick at No. 53 in the second round and has three picks – No. 76, 85 and 99 – in the third round. The Steelers will have multiple chances to find Jones’ replacement, or they could move up the board and land an even more potent target.
However it shakes out, Jones’ status is now murky at best. The Steelers will have to take his injury setback into consideration when they finalize their draft plans.
