Michael Pittman Jr. makes Steelers guarantee regardless of ‘old man’ Aaron Rodgers’ decision

The Pittsburgh Steelers made a trade before the 2026 season to bring in wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. Pittman is very excited to be playing for his new team. He is making a guarantee about this coming year’s squad.

“We’re just waiting to hear from old man (Aaron) Rodgers and see what his plan is,” Pittman said, per R.org. “If he’s going to come back, then that’s going to be great. And if not, then we got two guys that we believe in and we’re going to roll.”

Pittman is referring to quarterbacks Will Howard and Mason Rudolph. It remains to be seen who will be the team’s starting quarterback for 2026, as Rodgers is mulling a return to Pittsburgh.

In 2025 with Rodgers, the Steelers won the AFC North. Pittsburgh made the NFL Playoffs before losing once again in embarrassing fashion to the Houston Texans.

There are a lot of unknowns for Pittsburgh heading into next season. The team will have a new head coach, for the first time since 2007. Mike Tomlin stepped down after the 2025 campaign, and was replaced by Mike McCarthy.

There are also new players like Pittman, who says he fits right in with this Steelers squad.

“We have a really great base group of guys,” Pittman said. “Obviously, everybody knows DK (Metcalf), and then me coming here, so it made some news. But we have a lot of guys that are also in that room, Roman (Wilson), you got Ben (Skowronek) too who also does some special teams and offense too.”

Pittman says this group of receivers will present challenges to opposing teams.

“But I think it just presents a challenge to defenses that if you’re going to try to cover DK, then it’s going to leave me open,” he added. “If you’re going to try to cover me, it’s going to leave DK open. You try and cover us, it’s going to leave Rico (Dowdle) and Jaylen (Warren) open to run up the field. There’s so many weapons, and there’s so many great players, even our tight ends and everything.”

Pittman finished the 2025 season with 784 receiving yards for the Colts, and seven receiving touchdowns.
