For the first time since 2016, the New Orleans Saints could begin the 2026 NFL season without hybrid tight end Taysom Hill on their roster. While Hill playing for a different team seems like breaking an unwritten rule, a team reporter envisions him on either the Denver Broncos or Buffalo Bills in 2026.
Hill, 35, is still angling to return for another year, but his relationship with New Orleans has “run its course” in the eyes of Saints reporter Nick Underhill. Instead of returning to a team in transition, Underhill likes the versatile fan-favorite veteran reuniting with either Sean Payton or former offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr.
“No disrespect at all to Taysom, I just think it’s time,” Underhill said on the ‘In the Bayou with Tyrann Mathieu’ podcast. “It’s probably run its course. [The Saints are] a young team heading in a different direction. I don’t think he had a great year last year. I think that there could be a very specific role for him… I would be really surprised if he comes back. I could see him going to Denver. Pete Carmichael is in Buffalo now — I could see him going to Buffalo.”

Hill has appeared in only 21 games over the last two seasons, as injuries continue to be his biggest Achilles heel. He ended the year with a career-low 114 rushing yards to go with 921 receiving yards and just one total touchdown.
Hill has already spoken about his potential departure from the only organization he has ever suited up for in the NFL. He was among the team’s highest-paid players in 2025, earning an average salary of $10 million, money the team could not wait to get off its books.
