The Dallas Cowboys are just over a week away from being on the clock in the 2026 NFL Draft, where they will have the number 12 overall pick. The Cowboys currently have several holes to fill on their roster, most of them on defense, where Dallas ranked near the bottom in most statistical categories this past season.
Recently, Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN released his annual mock draft, and in this one, he projected that the Cowboys will swing a big trade with the Cleveland Browns, trading up to the number six overall pick in exchange for picks number 12 and 20.
With that number six pick, Kiper projected Dallas to take linebacker Sonny Styles out of Ohio State.
“…this trade up the board might have a greater impact, even if it means sacrificing one of those Day 1 selections. Styles is my No. 4 prospect, and he is explosive (43½-inch vertical jump), rangy (4.46 in the 40-yard dash) and productive (77 tackles last season),” wrote Kiper.
Notably, Kiper wasn’t the only analyst who had the Cowboys making this exact trade with the Browns, as Dan Brugler of The Athletic also had Dallas swinging a trade with Cleveland to move up to number six, and taking Styles with the selection.
The Cowboys had their fair share of problems on the defensive side of the ball last year after trading Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, so it certainly makes sense that they’d want to address that in full force at the upcoming draft, even if it means parting ways with some future assets in order to do so.
In any case, the Cowboys will officially be on the clock when the draft gets underway on April 23 in Pittsburgh.
