Panthers GM won’t rule out adding another Bryce Young weapon in NFL Draft

The Carolina Panthers were one of the pleasant surprises of the 2025 NFL season, as Carolina emerged as champions of the NFC South despite coming into the season with little expectations. Despite making the playoffs and nearly taking down the Los Angeles Rams, the Panthers are still in rebuilding mode when it comes to roster building.

The 2026 NFL Draft is a pivotal one for the Panthers, as who they select with the No. 19 overall pick could go a long way toward improving the team heading into the fall. Some people have ruled out wide receiver as a possibility for the Panthers after they elected Xavier Legette and Tetairoa McMillan in the first round in each of the last two seasons, but it is still a position of need for Carolina.

On Tuesday, general manager Dan Morgan hinted that the Panthers are considering drafting another first-round wideout to help out Bryce Young.

“We’re gonna take the best player,” Morgan said. “If the best player we feel at 19, I wouldn’t hesitate to draft another wideout. I don’t think there’s a rule that says you can’t draft a WR three years in a row, so I’m not gonna box us in and say we’re not gonna draft one.”

McMillan was a big hit for the Panthers last season and looks like he can be the top target for Young for years to come. Jalen Coker has also emerged as a solid starter, but Legette has been underwhelming during his first two seasons.

There are a number of receivers that could be available at No. 19 for the Panthers, including Indiana’s Omar Cooper Jr. and Washington’s Denzel Boston. Either could come in and help Carolina right away, so both are possible selections there.

Either way, the primary goal of the 2026 season for the Panthers should be getting a long-term answer on Young, who has been up-and-down since being selected with the No. 1 overall pick in 2023. Adding another wideout would give him an explosive group of pass-catchers to throw the ball to in order to give him the best chance possible to succeed.
