With the New York Giants preparing for the 2026 NFL Draft, general manager Joe Schoen is looking to add a crucial foundational piece with the No. 3 overall pick. As rumors will surround the Giants on which player they’re interested in, NFL insider Adam Schefter gives insight into the avenue they could go by.
Speaking on ESPN’s “NFL Live,” Schefter would emphasize how key the pick is since it will be the first under new head coach John Harbaugh, as he’s looking for a player to “establish a culture.” While Schefter wonders if New York would take Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, he would report that many believe the team’s pick “could come out of Columbus, Ohio.”
Meaning, the selection could be from the Ohio State football program, as he mentions top prospects linebacker Sonny Styles and safety Caleb Downs.
“[Harbaugh will] be looking for somebody to establish a culture to represent the values that he does, and that’s why it’s such an important pick for this team. And there are a lot of directions they can go,” Schefter said.
“A lot of people wonder whether they would roll the dice on Jeremiyah Love, who many consider to be the best player in this draft, or whether they would go a more traditional route and stick with the defensive side of the football, where they could really use some help. Sonny Styles, linebacker, Ohio State. Caleb Downs, safety, Ohio State. Lot of people around the league think that the Giants’ first pick could come out of Columbus, Ohio,” Schefter continued.
