Clearly, there’s a disruption from the New England Patriots’ normal process. And Dianna Russini has been suspended. Still, the Patriots’ GM Eliot Wolf says it’s business as usual for Mike Vrabel amid the Russini saga, according to a post on X by Ari Meirov.
Wolf said Vrabel has continued to work.
“Very involved,” Wolf said. “Business as usual. He’s been in there with us, this round of meetings, probably a little bit more than he was last year. He’s been contributing. He’s watched a ton of the players.
“He has an opinion on these guys. And it’s helpful. There’s players that the scouts like, me included. And he’ll be like, well, this is the reason that maybe this guy’s not the best fit for us.”
Patriots HC Mike Vrabel still dealing with fallout
Both Vrabel and Russini have tried to downplay the widely distributed photos. But Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports hasn’t pulled any punches, according to timesofindia.com.
“You don’t just get these photos randomly from far away, professional,” Portnoy said. “Somebody was out to get these two, whether that was Vrabel’s side, whether that was Russini’s side.
Portnoy also commented on the claim that they were part of a larger group.
“It’s quite peculiar at this point that none of these supposed friends have stepped forward and said, ‘Yeah, we were with them. Here’s proof we were with them.’
“I think it’s pretty obvious that maybe something beyond a friendship was happening here. … They’re both married with kids. So, in that respect, very sad story.”
Portnoy also said the impact of this situation won’t affect Vrabel’s job. That’s not the case with Russini.
“You cannot cross the line with your sources,” Portnoy said. “So maybe she crossed a work line, which will cause her to be terminated.”
Whatever the long run is for both Vrabel and Russini remains to be seen. Vrabel skipping a pre-draft press conference certainly means there’s at least some impact on him.
