The Houston Texans would probably say they had a successful season, but some would think otherwise. Though they won a playoff game, it wasn’t the best two games for CJ Stroud, especially against the New England Patriots. After the loss, there were questions about what the future would look like for Stroud on the Texans, but the organization let it be known that he wasn’t going anywhere.
They doubled down on that after picking up his fifth-year option, and general manager Nick Caserio had a strong endorsement for the quarterback.
“It was a no-brainer… Excited to have him around him in the spring,” Caserio said via Jonathan Alexander of the Houston Chronicle.
Earlier in the year, Caserio went to bat for Stroud and told the masses that they didn’t plan on trading him.
“Honestly, you try not to pay too much attention to [trade rumors], but you feel you have to address something,” Caserio said on the Pat McAfee Show. “Felt like that was the appropriate thing to do. I mean, [Stroud is] our quarterback. He’s played a lot of good football for us, to your point. He’s had some good games, he’s had some games, like all of us, there’s some ups and downs you have to deal with. Glad he’s our quarterback and glad he’s gonna be here for next season. We want him here.”
For the most part, Stroud has had a solid young career, and although he’s had some blunders here and there, it shouldn’t be too much to be worried about. The Texans dealt with several injuries last season to their offense, including Stroud himself, and they were still able to make the playoffs.
The Texans have already made some changes to ensure things get better for Stroud next season, firing quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson.
