Giants add backup for Jaxson Dart that’s a Titans reunion

The New York Giants have made some impressive improvements during the 2026 offseason. New York made some great moves in NFL free agency, adding playmakers on both sides of the ball. The Giants are not done yet, as they just brought in another quarterback just weeks before the 2026 NFL Draft.

The Giants announced on Monday that they have agreed to terms on a contract with veteran quarterback Brandon Allen.

This signing reunites Allen with Giants quarterbacks coach Brian Callahan. Allen played under Callahan when he was a head coach in Tennessee during the 2025 season. The pair also spent three seasons together in Cincinnati (2020-22) when Callahan was the team’s offensive coordinator.

Allen joins veteran Jameis Winston as a backup behind Jaxson Dart. That could be surprisingly important as Dart was pulled by concussion spotters multiple times during the regular season.

Adding Allen is not a flashy move by any means. But it further insulates the Giants from injury concerns at the quarterback position.

Giants fans should be optimistic about this signing because Allen will be playing under Callahan.

Allen’s best NFL season came in 2020 with the Bengals. He played in five games, throwing for 925 yards with five touchdowns, four interceptions, and a 63.4% completion percentage. The Bengals only went 1-4 during that stretch, but Allen proved that he’s a capable backup in the NFL.

Winston would almost certainly win a training camp battle with Allen, which would make him QB3.

New York should be set at the quarterback position, though they may still add another body or two during training camp.
