With the Arizona Cardinals preparing for the 2026 NFL Draft coming later in the month of April, the team has a high pick that has linked them to potentially taking Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson. While the Cardinals have been linked to Simpson in speculation, this latest report from a draft analyst speaks to the possibility.
Arizona has the No. 3 overall pick, with many thinking that could be too high for Simpson, especially if the franchise can get another elite talent at that spot. However, they have the 34th overall pick and can trade back into the first round to get Simpson, a predicament that Josh Weinfuss of ESPN said isn’t “out of the realm of possibility.”
“But it’ll depend on how much it’ll cost Arizona to get back into the first round,” Weinfuss wrote. “Although GM Monti Ossenfort might be on the hot seat and could be willing to try to win at all costs, the decision will come down to owner Michael Bidwill. Arizona has liked Simpson for a while, a source told ESPN in the fall. Adding to the intrigue will be whether the Cardinals believe Simpson is worth trading away a high draft pick instead of waiting until the 2027 draft, when a better crop of quarterbacks will be coming out.”
What the Cardinals should do at the No. 3 overall pick
In terms of what the Cardinals should do at the No. 3 pick, one source predicted to Matt Miller that Arizona should trade out of the high pick, as another advised selecting a defensive stud like David Bailey from Texas Tech or Arvell Reese out of Ohio State.
“The Isaac Seumalo and Elijah Wilkinson signings were seen leaguewide as putting Band-Aids on needs heading into a draft that lacks high-end offensive line talent worthy of the No. 3 pick,” Miller wrote.
It remains to be seen if the Cardinals find a way to land the Crimson Tide quarterback in Simpson, who threw for 3,567 yards to go along with 28 touchdowns and five interceptions. Arizona still has more time to figure it out with the first round on April 26.
