Falcons OT Kaleb McGary makes big retirement announcement

The Atlanta Falcons will move forward without longtime right tackle Kaleb McGary, who has announced his retirement from the NFL, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Schefter reported the news Wednesday on X, formerly known as Twitter, alongside a congratulatory graphic shared by NFL agent Collin Roberts.

“Falcons OT Kaleb McGary has announced his retirement from the NFL.”

McGary, 31, spent his entire six-year career with Atlanta after being selected with the No. 31 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He became a consistent presence on the offensive line, starting 92 games during his tenure with the organization.

His career came to an abrupt halt following a season-ending knee injury suffered during training camp ahead of the 2025 season. McGary did not appear in a game that year, and his absence forced the Falcons to rely on depth options along the offensive front.

Veteran tackle Storm Norton stepped into a larger role and delivered solid performances in McGary’s place. Atlanta also added Michael Jerrell, a former Seattle Seahawks offensive lineman acquired via trade last season, as part of its efforts to stabilize the position.

McGary’s retirement creates a clear need along the offensive line as the Falcons prepare for the 2026 NFL Draft. The team currently holds five selections, including the No. 48 overall pick in the second round, along with picks at No. 79 (third round), No. 122 (fourth round), No. 215 (sixth round) and No. 231 (seventh round).

With the draft set for April 23-25 in Pittsburgh, Atlanta is expected to evaluate offensive line prospects closely as it looks to reinforce protection and maintain continuity up front following McGary’s departure.
