Sinkhole In Goiânia Circuit Delays Moto2/Moto3 Qualifying And MotoGP Sprint Race

The heavy rain in the Goiás region of Brazil where the Goiânia circuit is located has caused further problems for the Brazilian round of MotoGP. A sinkhole opened up on the main straight of the Goiânia circuit, some way before the start and finish line, causing all activity to be postponed for the time being.

Videos circulating on social media were quickly taken down, but photos from people present at the circuit show workers digging a strip across the track about a meter wide and 2.5 meters long, at right angles to the direction of the circuit. Circuit staff were quick to excavate a large amount of the track and fill it with gravel. A new strip of asphalt will have to be laid over the top to replace it.
