Half Points For Buriram Moto2 Round Awarded After Laps Were Miscounted

The FIM has amended the championship points awarded for the Moto2 race at Buriram. The chaotic sequence of crashes, red flags, and restarted races saw a software system which Race Direction rely on erroneously count the first restarted race – red flagged on lap 2 – toward the total number of race laps run. For a full recap, read Zara Daniela’s Moto2 race report here.

After the race was over, the FIM reviewed the results, and changed the points awarded. Because less than half race distance had been covered in the first started and the third started race, only half points were due. Because the riders did not complete three full laps during the second restarted race, that race was null and void, and should not have counted toward race distance, and therefore points.
