Week 2 of Unrivaled has come to a close, and a few surprises were on display. Amid an eventful weekend, two clubs earned their first wins of the season.
With Week 3 approaching, there’s been a bit of a shake-up regarding teams rising and falling. Ballislife breaks down which teams are trending upward and which are headed in the wrong direction.

Laces BC
Laces BC had quite the showing this past week, with two victories, putting them at the top of the standings. Against Phantom BC, the Laces blew a lead, but against Rose, the club would rally and take the lead.

In both wins, the starting three of Alyssa Thomas, Jackie Young, and Brittney Sykes scored points in double digits. In the win over Rose BC, Young finished with 35 points, shooting 68.4 percent, making 4-of-7 threes. The Laces are an interesting squad: they had a higher field goal percentage than their opponents, but turned the ball over more. Against Rose, they shot better from the field and relied heavily on Young to deliver with high-volume shots.
This team has a ton of talent; it shouldn’t be a surprise that they finished 2-0 this week. The entire roster is filled with players who can get a bucket in clutch times.
Hive BC
Although Hive BC ranks last in the official standings, they did get their first win of the season against Rose. The victory came off a big game from Kelsey Mitchell, who had 24 points while shooting 64.7 percent and making 2-of-4 threes. The Hive would go on to lose to Phantom, but getting a win this weekend was important to show the progress the team is making.

Even though the club did lose to the Phantom, the progress was evident. Hive showed improved ball movement and more confidence offensively, though consistency remains an issue. With Mitchell continuing to set the tone, Hive BC could begin to climb out of the standings sooner rather than later.
Lunar Owls BC
Lunar Owls BC are another team tied for last in the official standings. However, they are on the board with a win now. Like Hive BC, this win motivates the entire squad. With the club getting Skylar Diggins back from injury, it’s important to see how Diggins and Marina Mabrey will lead without Napheesa Collier, who is out for the rest of the season. Mabrey came through against Vinyl BC with 31 points and nine rebounds on 22 shot attempts.

The contrast between that win and the loss to Mist BC was clear. Against Mist, the Lunar Owls were outrebounded and committed seven more turnovers. Cleaning up those areas allowed them to control the game against Vinyl and secure their first victory. If they can play consistently as they did against Vinyl, the Lunar Owls will be a dark-horse playoff contender.
Phantom BC
Phantom BC are starting to find their footing, which means they are a threat in the league. Going toe-to-toe with the Laces, this club has improved vastly since Week 1.
There were raised questions when it came out that Satou Sabally would be out indefinitely. However, Plum and Boston have stepped up in a big way, both scoring 20+ points against Laces and Hive. In both matchups, Phantom BC shot decently and committed fewer turnovers than their opponents.

One area for improvement is rebounding, as Phantom was outrebounded in both games. Otherwise, the identity of this club is starting to take shape, and it’ll be interesting to see how far Phantom can go as the playoffs get closer.
Fallers
Rose BC
After leading the standings as early favorites to repeat as Unrivaled champions, Rose BC has fallen. The loss to Hive BC was an eye-opener, but Rose has lost two consecutive games. Not once did Rose lead during its match against Hive BC; they almost mounted a comeback, but in the end, the result matters.
As for the second loss to the Laces, Rose was up by nine at halftime, and at some point was up by 11. However, by the end of the third quarter, it was a 3-point game, and the Laces stole it.
While the talent is still present, execution down the stretch has become a small problem. If Rose hopes to return to the top of the standings, maintaining composure late in games will be key, especially against teams that can have players get hot in the second half.
Mist BC
After cruising to a hot start, Mist BC finds itself falling. Although they were able to beat the Lunar Owls, they lost to Breeze BC by 19 points.
In that loss, Mist struggled defensively and couldn’t keep up with Breeze’s offensive pace once it found its rhythm. Additionally, Breeze controlled the game late in the first quarter, which overwhelmed them.
Mist can’t afford inconsistency from game to game, especially as the standings tighten. When Mist controls the tempo, they are difficult to beat, but lapses on both ends of the floor have cost them valuable ground. From a 2-0 start to now being 3-2, Mist will have to continue to fight. The squad is talented and can make up ground.

Vinyl BC
Once again, Vinyl BC is on the Fallers list for not winning games.
The loss to Lunar Owls highlighted ongoing issues with rebounding, an area that has plagued the club throughout the early part of this season.
Despite moments of competitiveness, Vinyl has struggled to sustain offensive pressure or capitalize on opponents’ mistakes. They are the third-worst team in points per game, which just won’t cut it against other clubs that consistently have high-scoring games.
If they can find more consistent scoring and limit second-chance opportunities, Vinyl can have a shot at a good win streak.
Breeze BC
After a hot start for the young squad, Breeze BC has started to slip. With a 15-point loss to Vinyl, who have been struggling to start the season, it is evident who the club must rely on. They were able to bounce back with a win over the Mist. In both games, Paige Bueckers would lead the team in points, putting up 25 against the Vinyl and 37 against the Mist.
While the entire roster’s production remains elite, the contrast between the two games was clear. Breeze ranks second in the league in turnovers, and when those mistakes pile up, even strong individual performances are not enough. Limiting turnovers will be essential if Breeze hopes to stabilize moving forward.
