Ravens hire Chargers’ Jesse Minter to be John Harbaugh’s successor

As there had been rumors around the Baltimore Ravens of who would be the next head coach of the franchise after John Harbaugh, the team has finally found the man to try to fill those shoes. With the Ravens conducting interviews with a myriad of candidates, the one that stood out the most was Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

“The Ravens are zeroing in on Chargers DC Jesse Minter to be their new head coach, per The Insiders,” Rapoport wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “A highly coveted defensive mind, Minter lands a premium job.”

As Rapoport mentioned in his social media post, Minter was on Harbaugh’s staff with Baltimore from 2017 to 2020 in a variety of roles, such as a defensive assistant, assistant defensive backs coach, and later a defensive backs coach. After a few more years at the collegiate level, he would return to the NFL with the Chargers, this time under Jim Harbaugh, as he now succeeds his brother.

While the Ravens have featured star quarterback Lamar Jackson, the team has always been coached by Harbaugh, who served the role as head coach since 2008. Now with the New York Giants after Baltimore fired him, the team was on the hunt for a new voice, with Minter eventually being the choice, as general manager Eric DeCosta released a statement, saying how they hired a “strong leader.”

“We are thrilled to announce an agreement with Jesse Minter to be the fourth head coach in Baltimore Ravens history,” DeCosta wrote. “Jesse is a strong leader who possesses a brilliant football mind and a spirit that will resonate with our players and fanbase alike. Jesse comes from a football family, with success at every level of the sport, and we are confident that he is the right coach to lead the Ravens forward. Congratulations to Jesse and his wife, Rachelle, and the entire Minter family. It’s time to get to work!”
