The first week of Unrivaled has concluded, and there is quite the shake-up from before the season started. Some clubs are finding their rhythm immediately, while others are trying to find a balance. Each week, clubs will start to gain traction and move further ahead of the rest.

Risers
Three clubs have set themselves at the top for this week. These teams haven’t just had a fast start, but they have fought with toughness. Each had some close calls, but has shown they can find ways to win no matter the odds.
Breeze BC
The most surprising team to immediately rise in the ranks is Breeze BC. The youngest club in the league has quickly captured everyone’s attention and, through week one, looks like the most dangerous team in Unrivaled.
Dominique Malonga is tied for second in the league with 10.7 rebounds per game and is averaging a double-double. Paige Bueckers ranks second overall in assists, averaging 7.0 per game, and has been the engine behind the Breeze’s offensive flow. As a team, Breeze BC is second in the league in rebounding, with four of six players averaging double-digit points.

Despite being the youngest roster in the league, Breeze BC opened the season 2–0, and their chemistry has been outstanding. Head coach Noelle Quinn deserves major credit for how quickly this group has gelled, as the Breeze are playing with confidence, pace, and composure well beyond their years.
Mist BC
Compared to last season’s slow start, Mist BC has flipped the script. With a 0–2 start a year ago, the Mist opened this season 2–0, highlighted by an impressive seven-point comeback win against Laces BC.

Four of six players are averaging double-digit scoring, led by Allisha Gray, who has once again shown just how vital she is to the team’s success. Mist BC currently ranks third in rebounding and second in blocks. On top of that, this team also takes care of the ball extremely well, only averaging the third fewest turnovers in the league with 7.7 turnovers per game.
Alanna Smith has quietly been one of the most underrated players through week one, making a strong impact on both ends of the floor. The Mist looks more disciplined, balanced, and dangerous than they did at this point last season.
Rose BC
This selection comes as no surprise. Rose BC has once again established itself as the league’s standard. Their toughness and grit were on full display in a thrilling comeback win over Vinyl BC, proving that this team can win under pressure.
Chelsea Gray has carried the offense early, leading the league in scoring with 31.7 points per game. Rose BC has done this despite the absence of elite scorer Kahleah Copper, who remains sidelined with a right lower-extremity injury.

Three of five players are averaging double-digit points, while the club ranks second in points scored and steals per game. Rose BC also leads the league in ball security, averaging just 5.7 turnovers per game. Once again, this club has picked up right where it left off last season. One thing is for sure: They made it clear that a repeat championship run is well within reach.
Fallers
Unfortunately, when there are rising teams, there are also teams that struggle to start the season. There are three teams that have started 0-2. This includes Vinyl BC, which is shocking, as the club was in the championship game last season.
Vinyl BC
Vinyl BC’s 0–2 start is easily the biggest shock of week one. After reaching the championship game last season, expectations were high, but early struggles on both ends of the floor have left them searching for answers. Not to mention this is the complete opposite of the club’s 2-0 start last season.

Despite showing flashes, particularly in their near-victory against Rose BC, Vinyl has struggled to close out and maintain consistency late in games. In their first two matchups, Vinyl BC led at halftime but lost each game. While the talent is still there, with four of six players averaging double-digit points, the team will need to tighten up its execution quickly to avoid falling too far behind in a highly competitive league.
Now 1-2 on the season, Vinyl rebounded with an 89-66 win over Hive on Sunday, thanks to Dearica Hamby’s first-ever 40-point outing in league history.
Hive BC
Hive BC has also opened the season winless, struggling to find an identity in general. The talent absolutely is there; however, this club averages the fewest points and rebounds in the league.
Defensively, Hive has shown effort. Saniya Rivers showed her defensive effort against Breeze BC with six blocks. Hive BC is also just a tad bit smaller on the defensive side. Team chemistry plays a huge factor in 3×3 in general. However, so far, without any prior experience, viewers can see that this club does need more time to gel.

There is some upside for the club: in the second half of the Breeze game, they looked much better and started to gel, but again, this club needs time. However, in a league as competitive as Unrivaled, time is not a luxury.
Lunar Owls BC
Lunar Owls BC rounds out the winless teams after week one. While the effort has been there, execution has not followed. The Owls have struggled with efficiency and turnovers, often allowing opponents to capitalize on mistakes. It is clear this club is desperately missing Napheesa Collier and Skylar Diggins. Marina Mabrey and Aaliyah Edwards are the only two players to average double-digits in points so far, with the rest of the team averaging less than five points.

There are promising pieces on the roster, but cohesion has yet to develop. As the season continues, Lunar Owls BC will need to establish a clearer offensive identity and gain more production from everybody else.
We can expect this to change once Skylar Diggins returns from injury, but for now, the Lunar Owls are struggling to find any footing.
Week two of Unrivaled kicks off on Friday, Jan. 16, featuring Laces vs. Phantom and Rose vs. Hive.
