Alcaraz Defeats de Minaur at ATP Finals in Turin

Top seed Carlos Alcaraz began his campaign to capture his first-ever ATP Finals title in Turin, Italy and finish the year as the world No. 1 with a straight set victory over No. 7 seed Alex de Minaur on Sunday.

Recording a 7-6(5), 6-2 scoreline, Alcaraz hit five aces, won 63 percent of his first serve points and broke his Australian Open on four occasions.

Improving to 5-0 against de Minaur in lifetime meetings, Alcaraz will next face either No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev or No. 3 seed Ben Shelton on Tuesday.

Zverev and Shelton will highlight the night session in Turin on Sunday.

On Monday, No. 2 seed Jannik Sinner will star in the night session against No. 8 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime.

The day session will feature No. 6 seed Taylor Fritz going up against No. 9 seed Lorenzo Musetti.

Musetti gained entry into the event when world No. 4 Novak Djokovic withdrew from the Finals after capturing his 101st title in Athens, Greece on Saturday night.

Djokovic defeated Musetti in the finals in just short of three hours. 

Sinner owns a 3-2 head-to-head lead over Auger-Aliassime in career meetings, and Musetti edges Fritz 3-2 in career encounter heading into Monday.
