MotoGP Injury Update: Marc Marquez Has Shoulder Surgery, Maverick Viñales To Sit Out Next 2 Rounds

A week on from injuring his shoulder at the Indonesian round of MotoGP at Mandalika, Marc Marquez has decided to have surgery to fix the shoulder fracture he suffered in his crash with Marco Bezzecchi. Marquez fractured his coracoid process, a bone which protrudes from the scapula or shoulder blade and anchors ligaments which connect the shoulder and the collarbone and holds the shoulder joint in place, as well as damaging those ligaments, the acromioclavicular ligaments.

The original plan was to treat the injury with rest and immobilization, but after a check up on his shoulder, the injury was healing too slowly. As a result, Marquez and his doctors decided to operate, fixing the fracture in the coracoid process, and repairing the damaged ligaments.
