Djokovic Returns on Tuesday to Headline Shanghai Masters Field
Tuesday’s Preview in Shanghai and Wuhan
Tuesday’s action at the Rolex Shanghai Masters in China will feature No. 4 seed Novak Djokovic return to action, facing Jaume Munar from Spain.
Being the loan big name to survive the decimated field, Djokovic will take a 1-0 head-to-head lead against his opponent on Tuesday.
Djokovic is the defending finalist in Shanghai, and is in search of his 101st career title. He last won a Masters 1000 event at the Paris Indoors in 2023.
The Shanghai Masters has seen most of the top players already out by the third round. Top seed Carlos Alcaraz withdrew before the event, No. 2 seed Jannik Sinner was forced to retire in the third set of his match against Tallan Griekspoor on Monday, and No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev was ousted by Arthur Rinderknech from France in three sets on Tuesday.
No. 5 seed Taylor Fritz was also defeated by No. 32 seed Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard on Monday.
Other matches on Tuesday will include No. 10 seed Hogler Rune vs. Mpetshi Perricard, Griekspoor vs. Valentin Vacherot, and No. 31 seed Gabriel Diallo vs. Zizou Bergs.
Wuhan Open Results
Monday’s results at the Wuhan Open in China featured No. 10 seed Clara Tauson, Moyuka Uchijima, Yue Yuan, Antonia Ruzic, Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, Maya Joint, Katerina Siniakova, and Elise Mertens all advancing to the round of 32.
On Tuesday, No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek, No. 3 seed Coco Gauff, No. 4 seed Amanda Anisimova and No. 5 seed Jessica Pegula will all be in action.
Top seed Aryna Sabalenka will return to action on Wednesday against either Anna Kalinskaya or Rebecca Sramkova. Sabalenka has not played a competitive match since winning her fourth career Major at the US Open last month.
