Labour Day weekend continues at the 2025 US Open in Flushing Meadows, New York with Day 8 coverage on Sunday.
Leading the Day session, former winner Carlos Alcaraz will take on Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in what should be a straight-forward victory for the Spaniard.
Leading the 30-year-old 3-0 in career hard-to-head meetings, Alcaraz has made the finals of the last seven events that he’s played.
The 22-year-old is aiming to win his sixth Grand Slam title in Flushing Meadows and to regain the world No. 1 ranking from Jannik Sinner.
Other matches on deck on Sunday will include Novak Djokovic taking on Jan-Lennard Struff, No. 4 seed Taylor Fritz going up against No. 21 seed Tomas Machac, and Adrian Mannarino facing No. 20 seed Jiri Lehecka.
On Saturday, Sinner, No. 8 seed Alex de Minaur, No. 10 seed Lorenzo Musetti, No. 15 seed Andrey Rublev, Jaume Munar, and Leandro Riedi all made the round of 16.
No. 25 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime caused the upset of the day as he dismissed No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev 4-6, 7-6(7), 6-4, 6-4.
It was Auger-Aliassime’s third victory against Zverev in nine meetings. The Canadian will take on Rublev on Monday.
Also on Monday, Sinner, de Minaur and Musetti will return to action as they all aim to the reach the quarterfinals.
Sabalenka and Pegula Highlight Day 8 Action
Top ranked Aryna Sabalenka will continue her quest to defend her title on Sunday at the US Open, facing Cristina Bucsa from Spain.
If the Belorussian is to succeed, she will face the winner of former Wimbledon champions No. 9 seed Elena Rybakina or Marketa Vondrousova.
Elsewhere, No. 4 seed Jessica Pegula takes on country woman Ann Li, and Taylor Townsend will look to continue her storybook run at the event by facing two-time Major winner Barbora Krejcikova.
Townsend recently defeated No. 5 seed Mirra Andreeva and No. 25 seed Jelena Ostapenko.
On Saturday, No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek, No. 3 seed Coco Gauff, No. 8 seed Amanda Anisimova, No. 11 Karolina Muchova, No. 13 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova, No. 18 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia, No. 23 Naomi Osaka, and No. 27 seed Marta Kostyuk all progressed to the round of 16.
On Monday, Swiatek will go up against Alexandrova, Gauff faces Osaka, Anisimova takes on Haddad Maia, and Muchova will be opposite Kostyuk.
