Hungary MotoGP Post-Race Subscriber Notes: Acosta And Aprilia Rising, A Bagnaia Revival, And Is Balaton Safe Enough For MotoGP?

After the sprint race on Saturday, we were worried that the Balaton Park circuit in Hungary was a bad track for racing. We should have realized, of course, that sprint races are not a good yardstick. Sprint races have produced some of the most turgid and lackluster racing since we bid a fond farewell to the 800cc MotoGP machines, with the races on Sunday being considerably more interesting. Or at least, once you have had your expectations sufficiently lowered by watching the sprint race on Saturday.

What we did learn is that Balaton Park is a great circuit for Moto3 and Moto2, classes without the excessive aerodynamics of a MotoGP machine, and with the weaker steel brakes that make for much longer braking zones. The early laps of the Moto3 race sorted the wheat from the chaff, and gave us a great battle to the line, eventually won by Maximo Quiles. And Moto2 saw David Alonso finally take the win we all knew has been coming for some time. In both Moto3 and Moto2, the top four were separated by less than a second.
