Tottenham will look to finalise the signing of Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze next week, according to a report.
The England attacker is on his way to North London, but he will not be suiting up for Arsenal this season. Despite the Gunners’ well-documented interest, they are set to be beaten to Eze’s signature by their hated rivals.
Tottenham have already agreed personal terms with the 27-year-old, and the player has informed Crystal Palace of his desire to make the move across the capital.
According to Ben Jacobs, Spurs are now confident of completing the signing of Eze, with talks between the two clubs described as ‘advanced.’ A final breakthrough is expected to be reached within the next few days.
Palace want to fully focus on Sunday’s clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, so discussions over Eze and Liverpool target Marc Guehi will likely not accelerate until next week. Eze is not expected to be involved tomorrow, but this is not entirely set in stone yet.
Spurs to pay less than Eze release clause
Tottenham are not planning to match the valuation of Eze’s now-expired €78.8 million release clause and will instead look to pay closer to €70m for the versatile attacker.
This is also the approach Arsenal had, but their anticipated opening €60m bid for Eze has not materialised amid a lack of outgoings. The likes of Fabio Vieira, Reiss Nelson, Leandro Trossard and Oleksandr Zinchenko are all still at the club, although the latter is reportedly now close to a move to Turkey.
Meanwhile, Palace have taken their time with regards to bringing in a replacement for Eze. Talks with Leicester over Bilal El Khannouss have now started after weeks of interest, but this ‘complex’ deal is not guaranteed to happen.
It remains to be seen if the Eagles will allow Eze to complete his move to Spurs before a deal for El Khannouss is struck, or if they will first look to wrap up a replacement before sanctioning the Three Lions star’s departure, as has always been the plan.
