Cincinnati Open 2025 Semifinal Preview: Alcaraz, Sinner Aim for Final Clash

Saturday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results and Previews from Cincinnati

Saturday’s stellar semifinal matches at the Cincinnati Open in Mason, Ohio will feature top seed Jannik Sinner taking on Terence Atmane, and No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz facing No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev.

Sinner, who hasn’t faced a top 20 player in his road to the semifinals, will next face Atmane, who entered the event ranked No. 136. Atamane has had the tournament of his life, defeating No. 4 seed Taylor Fritz and No. 7 seed Holger Rune en-route to his encounter with Sinner.

Sinner will be the overwhelming favourite to reach Monday’s final in Mason.

The day’s night cap will see Spaniard Alcaraz take on German Zverev. Playing each other for the 11th time, Zverev owns a slight 6-5 head-to-head lead over Alcaraz, winning their last contest at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, Italy last year.

Alcaraz defeated No. 9 seed Andrey Rublev in three sets on Friday, and Zverev comfortably advanced over recent Toronto champion Ben Shelton 6-2, 6-2.

If Sinner and Alcaraz advance to Monday’s final, it will be the pair’s 14th career match and first in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Women’s Semifinal Preview:

Sunday’s women’s semifinal matches at the Cincinnati Open will feature No. 3 seed Iga Swiatek facing No. 9 seed Elena Rybakina, and No. 7 seed Jasmine Paolini going up against Veronika Kudermetova from Russia.

Swiatek advanced over No. 29 seed Anna Kalinskaya in straight sets on Friday, Rybakina defeated top seed Aryna Sabalenka 6-1, 6-4, Paolini overcame the loss of the first set to dismiss No. 2 seed Coco Gauff in three sets, and Kudermetova was an easy straight sets winner over Varvara Gracheva 6-1, 6-2.

Swiatek owns a 5-4 head-to-head lead over Rybakina, and Kudermetova will take a 3-1 series lead over Paolini into their final four contest.

Swiatek recently won Wimbledon over American Amanda Anisimova, and Rybakina captured her lone Major at the All England Lawn and Croquet Club in 2022.
