Cincinnati Open 2025 Quarterfinal Preview: Sinner, Rune in Action
Thursday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results and Previews from Cincinnati
Thursday’s action at the Cincinnati Open in Mason, Ohio will feature top seed Jannik Sinner back in action as he looks to progress to the semifinals.
Taking on Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime from Canada, Sinner will attempt to win his first match against the No. 23 seed in three meetings.
Defeating Adrian Mannarino in straight sets on Wednesday, Sinner continues to be the best hard-court player in the world.
The night session will feature No. 7 seed Holger Rune taking on event surprise Terence Atmane from France. Atmane has had a great tournament, highlighted by victories over No. 4 seed Taylor Fritz, Joao Fonseca, No. 15 seed Flavio Cobolli, and Yoshihito Nishioka.
The 23-year-old will move up to No. 93 in the world with his quarterfinal appearance this week.
On Wednesday, No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz secured a quarterfinal place when he defeated Luca Nardi 6-1, 6-4. The Spaniard will face No. 9 seed Andrey Rublev on Friday. Rublev ousted Francisco Comesana in straight sets in the fourth round.
No. 5 seed Ben Shelton will also be in action on Thursday, taking on No. 22 seed Jiri Lehecka from the Czech Republic in fourth round action. The winner will play No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev on Friday.
In women’s action, No. 2 seed Coco Gauff will open the day’s proceeding with a fourth round contest against Lucia Bronzetti.
No. 7 seed Jasmine Paolini takes on two-time former Major winner Barbora Krejcikova, Ella Seidel goes up against Varvara Gracheva, and Veronika Kudermetova will face No. 31 seed Magda Linette from Poland.
Top seed Aryna Sabalenka, No. 3 seed Iga Swiatek, No. 9 seed Elena Rybakina and No. 28 seed Anna Kalinskaya were all fourth round winners on Wednesday.
Sabalenka will take on Rybakina on Friday, and Swiatek will face Kalinskaya from Russia.
