Fonseca, Raducanu and Bouchard in Action on Day 2 at 2025 National Bank Open
Monday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results and Previews from Toronto and Montreal
Monday’s action at the National Bank Open in Toronto, Canada will feature up-and-coming Brazilian star Joao Fonseca making his first appearance at the tournament, taking on Tristian Schoolkate. Never playing each other on Tour, Fonseca will be the heavy favourite to the make the second round.
Fonseca, who is currently ranked No. 18 in the world, has recorded a 15-11 record on the season. The 18-year-old has victories over Andrey Rublev, Hubert Hurkacz and Kei Nishikori in 2025.
Fonseca claimed his first-career title earlier this year Buenos Aires, Argentina against Francisco Cerundolo in the finals.
Other matches on the day will feature Borna Coric, Adrian Mannarino, Arthur Rinderknech and David Goffin in action.
On Sunday, Frenchman Gael Monfils played his final career match at the Canadian Open, losing to Tomas Barrios Vera from Chile in three sets and nearly three hours.
Canadian Vasek Pospisil also played his final professional match on Tour, dropping a three set encounter to Facundo Bagnis 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in nearly two hours.
Pospisil, who reached a career high of No. 25 in the world, won the Wimbledon doubles title in 2014 with partner Jack Sock.
Raducanu, Bouchard in Action
On the women’s side, Emma Raducanu, fresh off of a semifinal appearance in Washington, D.C., will take on Elena-Gabriela Ruse from Romania.
Other matches on Monday will include Naomi Osaka, Maria Sakkari, Katie Boulter and Eva Lys in action.
Canadian Genie Bouchard will look to light up the night session in perhaps her final match as a professional, when she faces Emiliana Arango from Colombia.
Bouchard is currently ranked No. 1062 in the world and has taken part in one previous match this year. Bouchard hit a career high of No. 5 in the world in October of 2014.
US Open winner Bianca Andresscu overcame an ankle injury to get by Barbora Krejcíkova 6-3, 6-4 on Sunday. Andresscu suffered an ankle injury on her first match point before eventually prevailing.
She will play No. 4 seed Mirra Andreeva on Tuesday.
American Coco Guaff is the tournament top seed in the absence of world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. Sabalenka opted to take a break after Wimbledon before the US Open.
