TRAILBLAZER TAYLOR TOWNSEND CAPTURES WTA WORLD NO.1 DOUBLES RANKING PRESENTED BY PIF

ST PETERSBURG, FL, USA – Taylor Townsend has today captured the WTA World No.1 Doubles Ranking presented by PIF for the first time in her career, becoming the first mother in history to ascend to the elite doubles ranking position.

Townsend, who gave birth to son Adyn Aubrey in 2021, secured her rise to become the No.1 doubles player in the world when the PIF WTA Rankings officially update on Monday having progressed to the final at the WTA 500 Mubadala Citi DC Open (Washington DC) with team mate Zhang Shuai earlier today.

The 29-year-old will become the 50th woman to hold the WTA World No.1 doubles ranking (and 13th American) and overtakes Katerina Siniakova at the summit of the PIF WTA Rankings who held the top spot for the last 46 weeks

“It feels like a dream and is without a doubt one of the highlights of my career,” said Townsend. “I loved watching doubles especially Martina Navratilova play and it’s an incredible honor to join the list of amazing players to have earned the No.1 ranking.”

In addition to her run to the final in Washington DC (which takes place tomorrow), Townsend has enjoyed a string of standout results over the last 12 months, including lifting the title last year in DC (with Asia Muhammad) and winning the Australian Open and the WTA 1000 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships earlier this season (both with Siniakova).

Townsend and Siniakova also closed out 2024 by reaching the title match at the WTA Finals Riyadh, presented by PIF.
