49ers’ Fred Warner can’t stop smiling about Dre Greenlaw reunion

If there is one player from the San Francisco 49ers who is eager to begin training camp, it is linebacker Fred Warner. He is targeting a bounce-back campaign after barely playing last season due to an ankle injury.

He suffered it in October against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, limiting him to just six games. Despite the setback, Warner maintained a positive attitude.

In a media conference on Monday, Warner said he is back in full strength and is “feeling great” entering his ninth year in the NFL.

“I’m feeling extremely blessed, grateful to be back,” said Warner, as quoted by the Associated Press’ Josh Dubow.

“No restrictions. Just being able to jump right in. Returning to practice kind of gave me all the confidence in the world to really attack training during the offseason.”

The four-time All-Pro First Team member also talked about linebacker Dre Greenlaw returning to the 49ers after a one-year stint with the Denver Broncos.

They had developed a close bond in San Francisco, and the 29-year-old Warner said he is excited to be teammates again, while paying compliments to the 28-year-old Greenlaw.

“Couldn’t wipe the grin off my face. He’s my brother, an incredible player, and a true culture guy,” said the 29-year-old Warner, as quoted by The Athletic’s Vic Tafur.

Greenlaw, who entered the NFL one year after Warner, agreed to a one-year contract worth $7.5 million to reunite with the 49ers.

Warner and Greenlaw are expected to be central pieces of San Francisco’s game plan for the upcoming season, with first-year defensive coordinator Raheem Morris aiming to recalibrate the team’s defensive approach.
