I know you are not supposed to start your 2026 MotoGP season preview talking about 2027, but it is just not possible. So much of what happens in 2026 lies in the long shadow cast by 2027 that you can’t avoid talking about 2027. With the radical change in technical regulations, new tire supplier, and several key riders switching manufacturers, 2027 is going to have a profound impact on this year.
The politics of the sport is changing too. We should already have had rider announcements for 2027, but the MSMA, the body representing the manufacturers, is holding out as part of a tactic to put pressure on what we used to call Dorna but must now call the MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group, or MSEG.
