The thousandth World Superbike race was the damp inaugural Superpole race at Balaton Parc Circuit. The weather was uncertain after rain showed up earlier and some riders lined up with intermediate tyres but the front row all fitted slicks. The warmup sessions were extended this morning to allow riders to get used to the conditions.
Four riders were declared unfit with Iker Lecuona, Remy Gardner, Garrett Gerloff and Andrea Iannone missing the remainder of the weekend. Lecuona with a fractured wrist, Gardner with a back contusion, Gerloff with a low back injury that surfaced after yesterday’s race and Iannone was reassessed this morning and has a neck sprain, chest bruises and right shoulder separation.
